The Unknown
Soldier
So that we ne'er forget hundreds
of thousand men
Laid in the fields of France by the guns of war
An
unknown soldier lies brought back to English shores
To symbolise the grief
that a nation feels
Bugles have blown the truce two
years of peace had reigned
Poppies in bloom again on Flander's battlefields
That unknown soldier they raised from the fields of France
And laid him
amongst kings under English skies
Chorus
Gone to be a
soldier to keep our England free
Buried as a hero giving all for victory
Giving all for victory
But peace was not to last Europe
at war again
Armies would march once more over Flander's battlefields
Hundreds of thousand sons followed their fathers' steps
And died on
foreign soil for Englands cause
Peace is our victory long may our England
be
Free from oppression and the guns of war
But let us not forget
hundreds of thousand men
Who gave the greatest gift that a man could give
